Effectiveness of Walking in the Avoidance of Cardiac Diseases in Retired Female Citizens

Abstract

This research explores walking as a preventive measure against cardiovascular diseases among retired female citizens in Pakistan. The study employed a quantitative cross-sectional research design, collecting data from 150 retired females aged 60-75 through a structured questionnaire. The study examined walking practices, cardiovascular health measures, lifestyle factors, and environmental support. Results indicated that regular walking (5-7 days/week for 30-60 minutes) was significantly associated with better cardiovascular health outcomes, including reduced blood pressure and lower prevalence of cardiovascular disease risk factors. Among participants who walked regularly, 78% demonstrated statistically significant improvements in cardiovascular health measures compared to irregular walkers. Environmental safety, accessibility to walking areas, and social support emerged as important factors for walking adherence. This research suggests that structured walking programs represent effective and accessible interventions for cardiovascular disease prevention in retired females, particularly through community-based walking programs supported by healthcare providers.
